Deathwing in Dragon form

In case you’ve been living in a cave of late you’ll be aware that patch 4.0.1 is now live and that we’re all firmly set on our way to Deathwing’s violent return. I’ve been making some notes as I have struggled to come to terms with what appears to be a brand new set of healing slippers. Every now and then I find myself pining for my tattered tartan moccasins—the ones with the frayed piping—but I know I won’t be getting them back and so onwards I must go.

The Good

  1. Healing’s actually a fair bit more challenging now. I have a choice of spell and don’t have to spam Holy Light all day.
  2. My flying mounts are all 310% speed which pleases my Argent Hippogryph.
  3. The UI’s had a few tweaks. I really like the built in raid frames and hope they end up replacing my trusty Grid.
  4. Ooh… pretty water.

The Bad

  1. Many of my addons stopped working—so I took the opportunity to start from scratch (kind of a goodbad… goobad… goboad thing)
  2. All my gems turned red deactivating my meta.
  3. My BiS Libram of Renewal is now crap since they removed the thing that made it special and replaced it with a gem socket.
  4. I got gauged for Glyphs on the AH (I’m just bitter I am not a Scribe)

The Ugly

  1. On my early 2008 MBP (4,1) performance ranges from “the same as before” to “utterly abysmal”1. Seeing as hitting CMD-M fixes this I’m optimistic this is a bug.
  2. Downloading patches for both my Mac and the Desktop PC have pushed me over my ISP’s FUP2 meaning I’m unable to raid for at least another 2 days. Knowing this might be have  been the case I shouldn’t have bought Left4Dead2 on the Steam sale last weekend.

All in all I’m actually fairly pleased with the changes. Most of the bad/ugly things are transient and will be fixed or just won’t matter so all that I’m really left with is that doing what I like to do just got a lot more interesting.

Change is good. The old moccasins were beginning to smell a bit anyway.

  2. Fair Usage Policy—Like many ISPs in the UK mine insists that unlimited means download all you want. What they really mean is download all you want up to this limit then we’ll cripple your connection back to dialup speeds. ↩︎
